Are the algorithms on par with or even better than Melodyne? Trying to gather whether I'll be able to sell my melodyne license. What do you think of it? It looks beautiful.

Check out the Flexing Vocals course to get a better idea about the algorithm quality.
There are still some minor things that Melodyne can do that this can't do yet, for e.g. glide transitions between notes. And of course the full version of Melodyne is polyphonic while this isn't...yet.

I've use Melodyne Editor for a couple of years.
And I've tried the LPX for a couple of days.
My initial conclusion.
LPX is way faster to work with than Melodyne.
This is done inline, so you do not have to rerecord as with Melodyne.
When you make drastic changes I will say that Melodyne does a way better job.
But if it is a good singer and you just need to fix a bit here and there LPX is doing a pretty good job.
Have I had this Flex Pitch in LP9 I would not have bought Melodyne.

I think what makes pitch shifting vocals sound most natural is when you can shift the pitch but not the formant. I think melodyne is automatically set up to only shift the pitch and not the formant where as in Logic X, I'm seeing 2 parameters in the track / region inspector. 1 is formant track and the other is formant shift. I can't seem to find much about this in the manual. Can anyone shed a little more light on what those parameters do? Formant shift appears to be a global formant shift while I think that formant track has to do with how much the formant shifts when you change the pitch of a note. Setting formant track to 0 seems to only shift the pitch of the note and not the formant.

However I'm confused by what the manual says :

• Formant Track: Determines the interval at which formants are tracked along the signal.
• Formant Shift: Determines how formants adjust to pitch shifts. When set to 0, formants are
adjusted together with pitch shifts.

Also, loving how it ignores consonant sounds. I would spend hours making sure I cut those out of notes so they wouldn't get pitch corrected in melodyne. I'm really excited about how much of a time saver this is!

Hey there,

The formant is not changed with pitch when using 'Voice' mode in Melodyne. It attempts to retain the original formant value so that you don't get the chipmunk/Darth Vader effect. In Logic, the Formant travels with the pitch. I find that in my workflow it is better to change formants after the fact when needed, because sometimes it sounds way better to have the formants follow pitch rather than remain fixed.

The idea of different formant modes is a great idea, though... Maybe the Logic team would be open to such suggestions.. :)
