When it comes to making beats there's a ton of different ways, no matter your talent level. You can use a mouse to program patterns, trigger sounds via a keyboard MIDI controller or pad-based controller like Maschine or an MPC. You can even hit the keys on your computer in Ableton, Logic and most other DAWs…
If you're more inclined to program sequences than play patterns live, but still want that tippy tapping feeling, then this awesome site, typedrummer, created by Kyle Stetz will be right up your street.
It's kind of clever, simple to use and satisfyingly enjoyable. Kyle has mapped each letter of the alphabet to different drum samples. The interface is a text field where you literally enter letters or words of your choice and enjoy the esoteric beats that ensue. You load new samples from the song Fool by Moon Bounce.
Oh, and you can share your word beat creations too. Fun, fun, fun!
