Prism Sound tell us that their new USB digital audio preamp is designed for "the discerning listener" and is the "best way to experience digital music". These are big claims of course, so we're interested in the tech behind this beautiful looking preamp. Callia features a high-quality analog power amplification and loudspeakers.
Prism go on to say: "The design goal for CALLIA was to provide Prism Sound audio quality in a sophisticated but easy to use package for listening to music at home. CALLIA makes no compromises on audio quality. CALLIA delivers the standard of audio performance demanded by top recording professionals from 44.1kHz to 384kHz sampling or in DSD64 or DSD128."
Here's an abridged version of the Callia specs:
- Balanced +14dBu XLR and unbalanced 2V Phono outputs
- Sampling rates from 44.1kHz to 384kHz
- DSD64 and DSD128 via DOP
- S/P-DIF inputs on optical and co-axial interfaces.
- USB 2 and 3 compatible
Prims also tell us that "Callia is great for listening on a good quality speaker system or on good-quality headphones. With a low 4-ohm output impedance, Callia can drive a wide range of headphones with excellent frequency response accuracy often sacrificed in standard 100-ohm headphone outputs."
We're looking forward to hearing more form Callia so we can make up our own minds just how good it is. If it's anywhere near as pristine as their other pro audio gear our ears will be in for a treat!
