Modstep 1.0 is out now and available on the AppStore. Modstep allows you to create music and jam with your iPad. Modstep is all about connectivity:
Seemlessly combine your favorite tools no matter in what shape or format they come: IAA Apps, your MIDI hardware, Mac- and PC Software, as well as the internal drum sampler and synth. Use it as the centerpiece of your setup to create and perform music on the go, in the studio and on stage.

Regarding the forthcoming update which adds Ableton Link intergation and more, here's what the Modstep folks told us:
"We have already submitted the first update, Modstep 1.0.1, to the AppStore. Due to the iTunes holidays, this will take until the end of the year/beginning of next year to go live. The update will feature bugfixes and Ableton Link-integration.
"Although we officially don’t support the iPad 1, all MIDI functionality including MIDI-streaming via studiomux currently works on iOS 5.1.1."
