Modal Teases Skulpt, New Hardware Synth

Just about the only thing we might know about the soon to be announced Modal machine is its name. Skulpt will be revealed on Friday 6th July 2018. An exciting synth summer continues.

If you like new synths then set your alarm for Friday 6th July 2018. Modal Electronics, Bristol-based synth and instrument maker, has published a teaser video without tons of obvious clues, but a nice soundtrack we guess is created using the new synth.

We're going to assume, thanks to the large typeface, that this new machine or synthesizer is called Skulpt. Perhaps suggesting a new effects box for sculpting sounds... or, more likely, a polyphonic analog synthesizer.

Aside from the recent super affordable, DIY-inspired CRAFT Synth and CRAFT Rhythm, Modal Electronics are well known for 008, their super-sounding analog poly, and the powerful 001 and 002 analog/digital hybrid synthesizers. So, we're curious to see how Skulpt will differ and what features it will bring to the table.

There are some suitably blurry images of a machine in the background of the teaser video. Looks white and black and we think we can make out there are knobs and controls too. We can't tell if there's an obvious keyboard so assume it's a desktop synth. Or, could Skulpt be the anticipated eurorack synth modules previewed a couple of years back at NAMM?

No features, details or pricing just yet. We'll have to until Friday to find out what this synthesizer holds in store for us...
