Why Throwing Cake At Steve Aoki Or Any DJ Isn't A Great Idea

There's lots of good reasons you don't throw food or drink near your music studio gear. And as this video proves the same needs to apply for DJ gear in stage during a Steev Aoki performance.

Throwing food isn't a new phenomenom amongst DJs and musicians. There's a the classic rotten tomatoes you might expect to receive on stage if the audience doesn't appreciate your performance. Whlie unpleasant, this wasn't a show-stopper when instruments on stage were all acoustic. But in the age of synths, laptops and fragile  turntables, throwing food or drink at a DJ, towards a DJ, or in th direction of their equipment is a definite no-no.

In this case, however, one fan got caught up on the moment... you see, apparently it's a bit of a well known thing for Steve Aoki to throw cake at his fans during when DJing. That's exactly what he did to celebrate his 39th birthday, and the 20th anniversary of Dim Mak Records.

What Steve Aoki didn't count on was one of his fans throwing a cake at him, which unfortunately partly landed on the DJ gear in the booth, caused the turntables to grind to a halt, and generally ruined the party and messed up the vibe.

But then again. If you do throw a cake at someone, don't be surprised if they throw some of it back.

If you find videos like this vapid and pointless, and would rather watch videos that'll teach you how to effectively scratch vinyl and become a turntable legend (without cake), then you'll love this video course on Turntablism: Skratching 101 by Sara Simms in the AskAudio Academy.

Here's a video tutorial on scratching fades from the course:
