Modular synths have enjoyed a huge renaissance in recent years and the flow of new models shoes no sign of slowing. The Make Noise 0-Coast is a unique synthesizer and in this six minute video from the full course "Make Noise 201: 0-Coast", synth expert Rishabh Rajan takes you through the fundamentals of the instrument's architecture.
Although the front panel of the synth might look a little like something from the Starship Enterprise, it actuallly makes a lot of sense once you've been shown around. Rishabh explains what each element does and how it all fits together. Check out the other videos in the course for more hands-on examples of making sounds with this unique synth!
Make Noise 201: 0-Coast
Whether you’re from the Moog (east-coast) or Buchla (west-coast) synthesis school of thought, you’ll find something to love in the 0-Coast (read: zero-coast) semi-modular synth. As its name implies, this semi-modular Eurorack desktop synth is inspired by both synth ideologies… it really combines the best of both worlds! In this course, synth expert Rishabh Rajan gives you an in-depth tour of all the 0-Coast features.
Rishabh starts by explaining everything about the synth’s architecture. You learn about its layout, signal flow and oscillators. Using the Moog- and Buchla-inspired controls and patchable sources & destinations, Rishabh shows how to get a wide palette of harmonically rich tones impossible to achieve on a regular subtractive synth. Next, you learn how to use the flexible (and fun!) on-board arpeggiator. After explaining legato, MIDI CV and MIDI Gate options, Rishabh dives deep into sound design with practical patching examples. The course concludes with examples of creating a “mult” and a complex modulated signal using the voltage processor.
So join sound design expert Rishabh Rajan, and prepare to get noisy with the Make Noise 0-Coast desktop synth!
