These Everyday Objects Sound Like Chewbacca

If you've been scratching your head trying to emulate the sound of Chewbacca from Star Wars... stop. There are everyday objects that sound just like the Wookie. You just need to find & record them.

Whether you're a serious sound designer or you just like making sonic effects that sound like everybody's favorite Wookie, we're happy to say this video is for you.

What better way to start your week than by watching objects that sound like Chewbacca from Star Wars. If you thought you'd need to apply effect processing to your own Chewbacca impresonations, hold that thought, save your voice, and try finding some of the objects in this video instead.

I bet when you were last recording found sounds you didn't expect to get Chewbacca sounds...

We're not suggesting the Star Wars sound designer, the great Benny Burtt, was inspired by the sound of a flushing toilet for Chewbacca (it might be the case, but we just don't know). However, good sound designers/sound recordists don't rule out the unusual in order to find their sounds. You can read more about the sound design workflows of Benny Burtt Jr. in our interview with him here.

This video, perhaps more than anything, demonstrates why having a portable recorder, or microphone for your smart phone, with you at all times is a great idea.

If you're interested in sound design this video course by Diego Stocco is an excellent watch. And if the concept of capturing sounds in Berlin's strangest places and then processing them for sound effects gets you curious, then Timo Preece's Capturing the Sound of Berlin video course is well worth watching.
