Theresyn is an Analog Synth And Theremin In One Unique Instrument

The theremin sound and instrument is taking a big step forward with this evolutionary new instrument, Theresyn, that combines the theremin with an anlog synthesizer and new ways to trigger sounds.

Superbooth18 may have closed its doors for another year, but that doesn't mean exciting news related to hardware synthesizers is on hold. News just in confirms that this rather interesting instrument, Theresyn, a hybrid theremin and analog synthesizer in one machine, is making an appearance at Synthesizers: Sound of the Future on 9 September 2018 in Australia. This exhibition will be accompanied by an online event running simultaneously.

According to MixDown, the Theresyn is a new instrument. That's not strictly true. We've seen it before. In fact, it was at Musikmesse 2016:

So, what makes Theresyn special? Well, the theremin is an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the thereminist. The pitch can be altered depending on the position of the hand in relation to the circuit. In addition, the Theresyn has a touchpad on the side of the machine which allows for a completely different way to play, perhaps with more sensitivity.

Thanks to Theresyn being an analog synthesizer you can mix the theremin with the synthesis engine to create really unusual sounds and sonic textures.

If you want a crazy synthesizer with an equally bizarre (in a cool way) way to interact and control it, then Theresyn is for you. If you want to use Theresyn to control an external hardware synthesizer, it can do that too!

There's little information on the Theresyn website. But here's what they say:

Theresyn allows you to "play faster than a theremin with the touch pressure pad. Theremin and synth sounds can be mixed and detuned. [It creates] percussive sound with the envelope generator. String resonator with Jawarii (significant feature of Indian instrument) generates rich harmonics. With all those features, this can create the new sound of music that no-one has ever heard before!!"

According to the video above from 2016 they were anticipating it would be available to buy a couple of months later. However, it's a good sign that in 2018 we should be seeing it appear at the Synthesizers: Sound of the Future exhibition. So perhaps it will be available for sale soon?
