Superbooth 2017: PreSonus Quantum Thunderbolt DC Coupled Audio Interface

At Superbooth 2017 PreSonus gave us a sneak peek of their upcoming Quantum thunderbolt 2 DC-coupled audio interface. Could this be the interface every analog and modular synthesist will want?

Superbooth 2017 isn't only about synths. There's also accessories and plug-ins, and interfaces. PreSonus revealed their soon to be (officially) announced super low-latency audio interface, Quantum, which features dual Thunderbolt 2 ports and can be daisy chained to up to four interfaces.

But what does this have to do with synths and modular machines? Well, it comes with DC-coupled inputs and outputs. This means it can be used with the expected audio ins and outs or with CV/Gate analog synths and modular Eurorack systems.

  • Thunderbolt 2
  • 26 inputs (8 analog ins)
  • 32 outputs (8 analog outs)
  • 192 kHz
  • No DSP inside

We're expecting it to be available within a month or so. The official price is $1299, but with an estimated street price of around $999.

Having no built-in DSP means this interface can achieve extremely low latency with the drivers PreSonus have made. Generally around 1ms, though it's apparently been tested on a Windows machine with a buffer size of 8 samples and achieved as little as 0.8ms of latency.

You'll need to wait until the 25th April 2017 before PreSonus unveil full details on their site...
