News: Create Cutting Edge Sounds with Razor by Native Instruments

Today my head's been turned... by the release of Razor by Native Instruments, a cutting-edge new software synth. It is of the additive variety with the ability to create some truly incredible and innovative sounds and it runs in Reaktor 5 Player (free) or Reaktor 5.5.

So what's it capable of and how does it work? Well, when you need to understand synthesis or discover how to use new virtual instruments, there simply isn't a better software educator around than our very own SteveH, and he has teamed up with Native Instruments to create an exclusive tutorial video on Razor and additive synthesis.

Although you may recognize many of the elements on Razor's GUI at a glance. e.g. oscillators, filters, effects and the other usual suspects, Razor is all about constructing sounds from partials, which as described by Native Instruments are, "single sine waves firing in parallel, changing amplitude and even frequency over time." There are multiple ways available to manipulate up to 320 partials in total which allows for some truly awesome sound design potential.
