How To Create Unique Patches In Propellerhead Reason's Grain Synthesizer

Use any sample from anywhere, or record your own sounds directly in to Grain to create a limitless selection of atmospheric pads and textures. Here's how.

Reason 10's Grain synthesizer is a powerful tool for creating all kinds of amazing sounds based on any audio samples that you like. In this short video from the course Reason 10 202: Grain's Granular Synthesis Explored, Rishabh Rajan guides you through the process of loading a sample - either from Reason's library or your own collection - to use as the basis for generating sounds.

You'll also see how to use the sample button - present on many of Reason's devices - to record audio samples directly into Grain and have them placed straight into the sample playback area. It's also possible to edit the sample using Reason's native sample editor window which pops up when needed. By editing or selecting areas of the sample for use as a source, you can greatly influence and change the way the end results are generated. For a complete guide to this powerful synth, check out the other videos in the course!
