What is the box from Apogee?

Every computer musician or video editor I know has a soft spot for the latest and greatest hardware. It's called gear lust. For most of us that often means hankering after the latest shiny and "all-new-most-powerful-ever" Mac or... PC. For others (especially us Digital Audio Workstation users) it will include salivating (ok - maybe that's just me) over the next hardware compressor, software plugin or audio interface... and top of my list of amazing audio interface manufacturers is Apogee.

As a very satisfied Apogee Duet owner, I'm always interested to see what's on the horizon from Apogee. Aesthetically they make very sweet and sexy looking devices... but aesthetics aside the quality of their devices including the Analog to Digital Converters and preamps... integration into Logic, Mainstage, Sound Track Pro, Final Cut... and the overall bundle is often exceptional for the price. Amongst their other available products are the One, Duet, Gio, Ensemble and Rossetta.

So, I was very curious to learn today on Apogee's website that they have something new to be released on 26 July 2010. But the big question is, what is it?

So far the information I've been able to glean from the teaser pic is it is a black box...has a lovely Apogee logo... the numbers 07.26.10 appear on a digital display with some red LEDs all on the front of a black box that can be rack mounted? All I know for certain is they hope this device will be "The New Standard in Recording Technology".... The Jury's out until we know more about it of course.... but I am definitely intrigued!

So, rather than promote an unknown and unreleased Apogee product any longer, I'll pass over the question to you.... What is this new device? What will it do? Will you be in the market to buy it? In fact what area of the audio hardware market will it fit into?
