A Quick Guide To Pitch Correction With Auto-Tune

Get everything from subtle correction to hard, EDM-style vocal shifting with Antares Auto-Tune EFX+. Josh Carney shows you how.

The Antares Auto-Tune EFX plugin includes the world famous Auto-Tune pitch correction algorithm, which is usually used to tune vocal recordings. Auto tune can be used for anything from subtle pitch correction to changing keys, all the way to the hard, robot-style pitch tuning heard on a lot of EDM tracks. In this video from the course Auto Tune 101: Auto Tune EFX+ Video Manual, Josh Carney demonstrates this handy effect in use and shows you how it works.

Auto Tune 101: Auto Tune EFX+ Video Manual

Josh begins by choosing the input type, key and scale, so that the plug-in will have the best chance of correctly matching its algorithm to the kind of vocal material it's being asked to process. You will see how the effect analyses each note in real time and displays pitch. He then explores the Retune Speed and Humanize controls, showing you how these can be tweaked to make pitch correction either more or less aggressive. He goes on to explain how formants can also be preserved with the simple press of a button, making for a more natural sounding pitch correction. The other videos in the course go into even more detail about how to use this powerful vocal processor, so check them out using the links below.
