Quick note on #1 - if, somehow, the person who the item was stolen from discovers you have it, they can take it from you (US law anyway) and you are left either trying to get your money from the real thief, or worse, having to prove YOU did not steal it. buying stolen gear is a terrible and risky idea that only rewards the thief.
