Logic X Drummer helps songwriters/arrangers who want drum parts that sound like a real drummer's performance without needing to program patterns themselves. Here's 6 tips for a more flexible Drummer.

1) Customize the “performance”

2) Switch “drummers’ without switching kits

3) Convert Drummer regions to MIDI regions

4) Customize the kit

HI! I was trying out the Chord Trigger trick, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. I am trying to use it with Polyplex. The upper keys in Chord Trigger react from C5-C6. When I chose "Learn," I've chosen the upper C5 key and it produced a red dot, then went to the lower C5 and tapped it, and then did the same for the rest of the keys. Though the keys respond on Chord Trigger, when I trigger the playhead on Drummer, there's no output. What am I doing wrong?

Hi velanche -

When you say "the upper keys react from C5-C6", I'm not sure what this means.. AFAIK, Drummer doesn't use those notes for most of its patterns, which are GM-based, so there'd be no reason to re-assign them. The idea is if, say, a Drummer pattern triggers the kick from C1, and the drum instrument (Polyplex?) you want to use with that sequence assigns the kick to, say, C3 instead, then in Learn mode you'd choose C1 in the upper and C3 in the lower. Alternatively, doesn't Polyplex let you learn MIDI note assignments itself?—if so you could possibly do any needed mapping there instead..?

Cheers,
Joe

Hey Joe:
Sometimes, it's a little challenging for me express proper terminology, but you did get my drift. I actually tried it just now in Polyplex (which seems to use C5 in the Ionian scale by default, but can be dialed back as low as C3 in the software), it sure enough playback hit all of the notes. This is very useful, and a very neat hat trick. Many thanks for this, Joe, as well as to help!

hi, is it possible to automate the push/pull feels?

Here's what's TOTALLY not clear to me. Ideally I'd use DKD to get the right groove, and then split out the MIDI parts to different channels for my own processing. I see it's easy to transform the MIDI events in DKD to different tracks, but they're all on one channel, so individual processing is not possible. I could open up new channels and Option-drag the MIDI into those but then I don't get the nuanced producer's track setups. Or am I missing something? Help!

Hi -

I've started a thread on the MPV Forum so I can include a screenshot in my reply. :-) Please go to
