Learn Dorico with Steinberg Certified Trainer, Leo Nicholson

Steinberg Certified Trainer, Leo Nicholson,  starts the course with a tour of the user interface. He then explains Dorico's templates, its five modes (setup, write, engrave, play and print), and its panels and tools. Leo demonstrates how quickly and efficiently you can enter notes using different techniques, whether it's your computer mouse or keyboard, or your MIDI controller. The quickest way around Dorico is to learn and use key commands, and this is why Leo covers all the essential ones during the course.

Check out this quick tour of the Dorico UI:

As the course proceeds, you learn how to enter dynamics, articulations and slurs, how to add chord symbols, grace notes, ties and input lyrics. You also learn the importance of Engraving and Layout options and how they affect notation on the page. Finally, you look at all the layout options, and you learn to print your completed score or export it as a PDF.

Is Dorico amazing?

Well, in many ways yes! Amazing because creating a music notation program from scratch is, perhaps, one of the most difficult type of software to design.
