Them be fighting words! And CloudBounce are happy to explain just why their 2.0 update for their cloud-based AI-driven online mastering service is the best available in the world...

Online mastering really took off in 2016. Nobody yet is able to claim automated mastering can fully rival, or replace, the professional mastering engineer. However, the results are getting better. Here's info fro CloudBounce about their version 2 AI-driven online mastering service.

CloudBounce isn't alone in the field of online mastering. To give you an indication of how it shapes up to the others check out this video comparison of CloudBounce vs LANDR vs Masterlizer vs eMastered vs Maztr and a human-run mastering studio:

The Scandinavian startup and Abbey Road Red music-tech incubation program graduate has launched CloudBounce 2.0, an upgraded online mastering engine that expands the way mastering is used in the creative process. CloudBounce 2.0 uses cutting edge audio technology and artificial intelligence to deliver the fastest, most versatile and most professional, automated mastering service yet.

LONDON, (UK) - (4th April 2017): Finnish tech start-up, CloudBounce, has launched CloudBounce 2.0, an upgraded and enhanced mastering engine that sets new standards in automated mastering. Using cutting-edge AI and machine learning, CloudBounce 2.0 gives all music creators access to instant, affordable and superior mastering at any stage in their creative flow. With a service starting at just $4.90 per track, rising to an unlimited monthly subscription of $29.90 (or annual plan at $199.99), for two hi-res files per master (1 x uncompressed WAV / 1 x 320kbps MP3) and lifetime Cloud backup, CloudBounce offers a high quality / low cost approach that enables professional quality mastering to be used more often and in more creative ways.

CloudBounce 2.0 is a big step forwards in automated mastering. If you want to fine tune an audio track, or need instant feedback, or want to master individual parts during the production process, improving and changing sounds, you can have high quality masters within minutes. If you need a professional sounding demo to send to a label, or just a track immediately ready for commercial use, CloudBounce 2.0 takes automated mastering to the next level. The new engine interprets the needs and nuances of different genres like never before, to offer an unrivalled and versatile range of hi-res mastering solutions for tailor-made sound.

The AI and machine learning used in CloudBounce 2.0, listens to, and analyses, the characteristics of a track. Through this process, the correct, context-based, automatic digital signal processing elements are then applied. Put simply, CloudBounce 2.0 can listen to each individual track, then decide how to master it to a professional level.

The new engine promises; even higher clarity, without unwanted frequencies or resonances; enhanced dynamics and depth throughout the entire frequency range; controlled lows, balanced mids and classy highs as well as improved transients handling for added punch.

The small CloudBounce team of passionate musicians, audio researchers and engineers from Finland confidently believe their new mastering engine to be the best available in this fast-emerging market. CloudBounce CEO, Anssi Uimonen comments:

“When redesigning the engine and user experience, we took every single user feedback we’ve gotten since we first launched a year ago and implemented over 90% of them into this version. I couldn’t be more happy and proud of the whole team and I am truly grateful for everyone who has helped make this happen. We are very confident that our service will be the best choice many musicians, sound designers and studios will make this year.”

CloudBounce are recent graduates of Abbey Road Red, Europe’s only music-tech-specific incubation program, which gave them mentorship, advice and access to the legendary studio’s facilities to help them get to this next level. Abbey Road Studios recognise that the development of affordable, automated mastering is an exciting new creative tool for music-makers and one to be embraced. Abbey Road Red Innovation Manager, Jon Eades comments:

“While some people may see automated mastering as a direct threat to human mastering engineers and add fuel to the are-robots-taking-our-jobs debate, what we are seeing is that both alternatives have unique attributes and that there is a space in the market for both. It’s great to see CloudBounce continuing to develop and go from strength to strength – they are a great team with an infectious energy and enthusiasm for their product.”

It’s not just a superior mastering engine that gives CloudBounce a competitive advantage. Unlike other platforms, CloudBounce provides only hi-res mastered audio, either 24-bit WAV or 320kbps MP3 files. As part of the service, CloudBounce also offers the best public sharing options on the market, removing the need for platforms such as Dropbox or Soundcloud. Pay-As-You-Go and subscription options both include a CloudBounce shareable player page and lifetime Cloud backup; invaluable for artists sharing hi-res demos with fans, labels or clients, or for a sound designer working with multiple audio files.

To underline their belief in the quality of their service, CloudBounce are also offering three free masters to anyone signing up to try out their new and improved mastering engine at www.cloudbounce.com/freemaster. The company confidently invites creative music-makers to test out CloudBounce 2.0 and have posted their own comparative analysis here.

CloudBounce understand that mastering is the most important step in turning a track into a finished production that sounds professional across the myriad of formats and devices used today. Their new mastering engine has turned high quality, affordable mastering into a valuable new asset during music creation, from improving the sound of individual parts to providing an ongoing reference point for sound quality. CloudBounce 2.0 will be an integral part of the creative flow of audio creators.

To answer the question posed in the headline, the answer is "no." As an audio and music professional with 20 years of experience, I urge you to please stop giving credence to these gimmicks and pretending that true professionals are ever going to use a service like this.

As you say, nobody is claiming that algorithmic mastering can provide results as good as mastering by a human. But you never indicated that you have even tried this service and evaluated the results and compared it to a real mastering job. Quotes from the company, technical specs, prices. Sure reads more like an advertisement to me than an objective piece of writing about a new product.

It is frustrating to read articles written this way, especially at a time when more people are getting into music production, but many of those readers have no clue how to use an equalizer or understand how dynamic compression works. This lowers the bar for all of us.

I'm sorry to be so negative, but the fact that you are a self-confessed Mac fanatic tells me about all I need to know. You're into flash and glitz, not fundamentals. I get it. That's the way of the world now.

But 20 years from now, some of us will still be producing music the human way, because that's what it is and will be: a human expression. Composition, performance, recording, mixing, mastering, artwork -- all these elements combine to create a work of art. Please don't forget that.

I just read this article while looking out for online mastering and trying out many of them on one song of mine .
While I have to say that cloudbounce is not the winner for me , I have to state that the possibility of having
sort of semiprofessional masters for very little money ( or no money at all - mastering box one 320 kbps mp3
per day free !) is absolutely great . It gives you freedom over your stuff not to be dependent on very pricey
mastering studios . And mixing is what it´s all about !! To make music nowadays is so much easier for the non
trained musician having all possible sounds at hand at any time , all tools which make it easier , to make
great stuff . Or completely boring stuff .Your choice . The world changes , and the real and best ones will keep
on going on stage and tour to prove it . And the others dream of being famous one day ( like me ( ? ! ) 56 and
still trying to ) and by the way make a living for the the companies , who produce the software you need .
Just to find out one day , that for their most used piece of software there is no longer maintenance by the company
lately linplug / cakewalk sonar , formely project 5 and so on . But that´s another story .
The winner in my test was
1) for serious intentions : aria ( automated hardware mastering , highest price of the ai )
2) for my daily use : mastering box , really great master , rivalling aria !!!
